Welcome to Jugendakademie Walberberg!

Jugendakademie Walberberg is an independent centre for informal, extracurricular education in the archdiocese of Cologne. The Christian image of humanity shapes our engagement for young people with less abilities, our understanding of hospitality, and our concept of education.

The supporting organisation of Jugendakademie Walberberg is an independent association. It consists of 60 individuals as well as a Representatives of Catholic youth federations. The association employs more than 30 staff members.

In Jugendakademie approximately 20 free lance trainers run the seminars. At the Jugendakademie, all youth and young adults interested in interaction and meeting are welcome. Our educational work is a contribution to youth identity formation. This refers to social, political, religious, intercultural and gender aspects of human living together.

We are a place for education – as an organiser of our own educational seminars and as a guest house for groups: well accessible via public transport from Cologne and Bonn, yet, in the middle of nature’s Kottenforst.

Advanced trainings and symposia

We also regularly organise advanced training for extracurricular youth education consultants. We arrange training for instructors in the field of the rope course and wall climbing and organise advanced training in the field of experiential education. Our symposia focus on the latest pedagogic, religious and socio-political themes. They are aimed at promoters of youth work, teachers and interested parties

Seminars for school classes

Children and youth studying in secondary and high school as well as trainees are here.
In our seminars for pupils, young people learn much about themselves and about their schoolmates: What impression do I make on other people? How can we resolve a conflict? And: What makes a good life?

We provide the youth with free space, so that they can speak about themes important for them: love and friendship, belief and religion, war and violence, unemployment, career and life plans, managing diversity within their group. National and international youth from different types of schools and groups meet in our house. That is what is important to us.

Youth look for and need guidelines on the market of world views. They can speak about that to each other here – regardless of the variety of their background, culture and religion. A respectful approach to each other can be learned and tested. We would like to encourage friendly living together for people with various religious communities in the immigrant society in Germany.

 

International Seminars for youths with access barriers

Bi- and multilateral seminars

Our international bi- and multilateral seminars target “youths with access barriers”. We offer the youths the possibility of participating in international seminars to gather positive experience and develop their own visions of the future in an international atmosphere.

In the sessions, the focus is not only on exploring interesting topics but also on widening the horizon by attending interesting excursions. They offer the possibility to broaden horizons and gather intercultural experience. Sports and activities that encourage creativity go together. We would like to give the participants the courage to communicate in an international environment and to better get along with young people from other countries. Many participants of bilateral seminars have been encouraged to attend multilateral youth exchanges or a European Voluntary Service /European Solidarity Corps project abroad for the past years. Recent topics have been job and future perspectives within the EU, discrimination in Europe, living in an intercultural society, homeland – Europe, right-wing extremism, and violence to name a few.

We collaborate closely with such partners as youth welfare organisations, secondary schools, and centres for vocational training in Germany, Ireland, Poland, France, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Scotland, Greece, Italy, and Hungary – some of whom we have been working for many years now, and some which are still growing. Our network is constantly expanding.

Bilateral exchanges always take place in Germany and in the other participating country. We prepare our multilateral seminars in cooperation with our partner organisations and conduct them in other partner countries every year.

Participation in international seminars can open doors to future international exchange programmes or international voluntary services in the frame of the European Solidarity Corps.

European Voluntary activities for youths with access barriers

Youths with a wide range of several access barriers usually do not have an easy access to the market of International Voluntary Services abroad. The project often fails searching information or not getting encouragement from family and friends. The European Solidarity Corps programme mainly focuses on giving young people with access barriers the chance to work voluntarily abroad without any charge for the volunteer.

Therefore, we offer short-term and long-term international voluntary services within the frame of the European Solidarity Corps to perform voluntary activities in social, ecological or cultural project abroad and live there within the network of our partner organisations in Germany, Italy, Ireland, Scotland and Bosnia.

We organise, accompany and support the young people before, during and after the stay. We co-operate with long-term national and international partners, who highly trust confidence for this work and whom we have been working with in the field of national and international seminars for a long time. We invite all new partner organisations to our network!

ESC places in Germany

We also offer ESC – places in Germany – especially in Bonn and Cologne – and support the youths from our partner organisations and the German projects to attend a European Solidarity Corps project alone or in an international volunteering team.

Volunteering team in Germany

From July 4th to 19th the team volunteering project “Generations joining handy for a common future” will take place in the Jugendakademie Walberberg. Participants at the age of 18 – 30 from Scotland, Bulgaria, Italy and Germany come together to do voluntary work, to deal with the issue of sustainability and to exchange experiences and values in an intergenerational dialogue.

Training sessions for European volunteers

We are one of five organisations in Germany offering the ESC training seminars on behalf of the German National Agency.

We offer pre-departure seminars to youths with access barriers. European youths obtain with us on-arrival training sessions and a mid-term-meeting after the first half of their European Solidarity Corps project in Germany.

During these seminars, the volunteers deal with diver­sity management, their own projects, conflict resolu­tion and topics related to German and European politics.

Rope course and Climbing wall: Didactic adventure between Heaven and Earth

Important capabilities such as the ability to work in a team, self-reliant action, and the ability to deal with conflict can be well supported with an offer of the rope course. To climb to a dizzying height, to survive troubles together with others, to prove one’s courage and to break limits: Active learning in the rope course and on the climbing wall attracts the young as well as adults. Anybody can contribute to problem solution.

Qualified instructors take care of the program, which is tailored to the target group.

We educate instructors according to the ERCA-Standard (Europe Ropes Course Association).

Weg von der Bahnstation zur Jugendakademie

  • from the south: to Bonn main station. Then take the subway line 18 (direction: Köln-Buchheim) till the stop “Walberberg”; from there it is about 20 minutes walk to the Jugendakademie (follow the signs).
  • from the north: to Cologne main station. Then take the subway line 18 (direction: Bonn Hbf – not Brühl!) till the stop “Schwadorf”; from there it is about 20 minutes walk to the Jugendakademie. The Jugendakademie is located near the forest at the upper end of the village, and is an extension of the “Schützenstraße” – it is not identical with the Dominican abbey Walberberg.

Walberberg is located about 5 km away from Brühl between Cologne and Bonn.

Take the motorway No. 555 exit in Godorf, then head direction Brühl. From there, take the motorway 553 in direction Koblenz and exit in Walberberg.

CleverReach

This website uses CleverReach to send newsletters. The supplier is CleverReach GmbH & Co. KG, Mühlenstr. 43, 26180 Rastede. CleverReach is a service which organizes and analyzes the distribution of newsletters. The data you provide (e.g. your email address) to subscribe to our newsletter will be stored on CleverReach servers in Germany.

Sending our newsletters with CleverReach enables us to analyze the behavior of newsletter recipients. Among other things, we can find out how many recipients have opened the email containing the newsletter and how often various links contained therein are clicked. With the help of conversion tracking, we can also analyze whether a predefined action (such as the purchase of a product on our website) takes place after clicking on the link in the newsletter. We waive to make us of extensive analysis, especially conversion tracking functions. We only evaluate anonymous data on opening- rates and types of technical devices and platform (e.g. browser, email-software) used to display the mailings.

Completion of an outsourced data processing contract

We have entered into an agreement with CleverReach for the outsourcing of our data processing and fully implement the strict requirements of the German data protection authorities when using CleverReach.

5. Plugins and tools

We also like to embed different media (e.g., videos) and social media content within the framework of our websites and, thus, give you the chance to share contents easily. However, by the use of certain plugins, (personal) data might be sent to the plugin service providers and be used by them. For the data to be sent, a specific action (e.g., clicking on a video) is not needed, but the data can already be sent in the background while visiting the website. The used plugins and tools are therefore carefully selected.

Contact Form 7 Datepicker

We provide contact forms for booking requests. To facilitate the selection and input of the booking or reservation periods, we use the plugin Contact Form 7 Datepicker which offers you a calendar view. For the provision and display, the plugin accesses an iQuery-Library under https://ajax.googleapis.comwhich is hosted by Google.

Google reCAPTCHA

We use „Google reCAPTCHA“ (hereinafter „reCAPTCHA“) on our websites. This service is provided by Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheater Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA („Google“).

reCAPTCHA is used to check whether the data entered on our website (such as on a contact form) has been entered by a human or by an automated program. To do this, reCAPTCHA analyzes the behavior of the website visitor based on various characteristics. This analysis starts automatically as soon as the website visitor enters the website. For the analysis, reCAPTCHA evaluates various information (e.g. IP address, how long the visitor has been on the website, or mouse movements made by the user). The data collected during the analysis will be forwarded to Google.

The reCAPTCHA analyses take place completely in the background. Website visitors are not advised that such an analysis is taking place.

To display the map and to provide OpenStreetMap’s planning functions , it is necessary to save and transmit your IP-address to the OpenStreetMap server. The provider of this site has no influence on this data transfer.

Shariff Wrapper

To share web content, we use the plugin Shariff Wrapper which adapts the “Shariff Concept“ for the creation of a share button that follows data privacy, developed by the computer magazine c’t. A Shariff-Button only establishes a direct connection between the social network and the visitor when you actively click on the share button. This way, we can offer you a share feature without using the respective tracking intensive plugins of the social media services.

The plugin Shariff Wrapper is used to make our website appealing.This constitutes a justified interest pursuant to Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR.

YouTube

In some articles on our website, YouTube videos are embedded. Due to the transfer of personal data without playing and watching videos but by only visiting the site, we waive an implementation of videos via native plugins of YouTube. By embedding videos with the third-party plugin YouTube Lyte, a connection to YouTube’s servers will only be established when actively clicking and watching the video.

By actively clicking and starting a video, a connection to the YouTube server, operated by Google, is established. The YouTube server is informed about the pages you have visited on our website.

If you are logged in to your YouTube account, you allow YouTube to associate your browsing behavior directly with your personal profile. You can prevent this by logging out of your YouTube account.

YouTube is used to make our website appealing. This constitutes a justified interest pursuant to Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR.
